Compost

We start with a blend of wood chips and food scraps to get the right carbon/nitrogen ratio.  Then, we pile the material into large aerated static piles.  The material is kept above 140F for atleast 72-hours straight during the compost process to kill pathogens and weed seeds.  After 90 days of composting and curing, the compost is screened and ready for sale.

Square Foot Gardening Mix - $9.00/cubic foot bag, $175/yard

This container mix is great for anyone using raised beds, especially those doing Square Foot Gardening. It is 1/3 compost, 1/3 peat moss and 1/3 coarse vermiculite.

This is THE recipe prescribed for Square Foot Gardening, so if you were looking to make your own, you might want to save yourself some trouble and buy in pre-mixed!

Vermicompost (Worm Castings)

Vermicompost is one of the best natural materials on the planet for growing plants.  It's the platinum of soil amendments.  And just like hard working miners toiling for Platinum, we work really long and hard to make some great vermicompost.

It starts outdoors in our aerated static pile compost piles.  After 3-4 weeks of composting, we dig into those piles and pull out some partially composted material for our worm bins.  Our piles have been at 140F for at least 72-hours straight, killing any pathogens or weed seeds in the material.

The material then spends a month in our worm bins where thousands of worms work their magic.  Finally, we harvest, screen, and bag the material for your use.

Vermicompost - 20 lb bag - $14.00

This vermicompost is an amazing soil amendment.  It can be mixed with topsoil and used as a potting mix.  It can be soaked in water and make compost tea which can then be applied as a liquid fertilizer.  Use it in your garden, use it indoors, or add it to your flowers.

We are lucky to have a lot of worms and therefore a lot of worm poop.  We screen the vermicompost to 1/4".

Compost Tea Bag - $5

Compost Tea is awesome stuff.  Our compost tea bag is filled with our vermicompost.  Since the material has been through a pathogen killing process, it is safe to apply directly to vegetable and fruit plants.  It can be sprayed directly onto plants leaves or poured at the base of the plant.  There aren't many substances that can do that!

Compost tea packs a punch of beneficial microbes and nutrients that help plants grow and fight some diseases.

Each tea bag makes 5 gallons of compost tea.  It also comes with directions on how to brew up your tea and use it on your plants.

Compost Worms

We've got over a million worms on the farm.  That's 1,000,000+ !!!  So, needless to say, we've got a few to spare.

Red Wigglers aka Eisenia Fetida aka "compost worms" are built to compost. They never sleep, they double their population every 90 days, and eat their own body weight every 3-4 days!

Using worms for composting in your home or garden is a rewarding hobby. Worm castings (worm poop) is considered to be one of the best natural soil amendments available.

Worm Bin - $60.00

This bin is a simple and proven approach to vermicomposting. It is much less expensive than other commercially available worm bins and equally effective. The bin is stocked with 1 pound of red worms (Eisenia fetida) who are comfortable and working in established bedding. This bin is ready to go, just add your kitchen and garden waste!

For $60 you get:
- 1 lb of worms
- Bedding/food that the worms are already working in
- An 18 gallon worm bin (properly ventilated and with a reservoir to collect compost tea)
- An owners manual and technical support as you get comfortable with vermicomposting

If fed and watered enough, your worm population should double to 2 pounds in about 90 days. A pound of worms, in optimal conditions, eat their body weight in 3-4 days. So, let them take care of your food waste, coffee grounds, and garden waste. The worms also produce a wonderful amount of worm castings and compost tea. This material is perfect for use on plants indoors and outdoors.

Rain Barrel - $70

We have 55 gallon rain barrels available for purchase. These are re-purposed food grade barrels which used to hold hazelnut and french vanilla flavoring for coffee roasting. Instead of going to the landfill, they have a new lease on life as a rain barrel.

Our barrels are built with high quality materials and common sense. This means they're built to last:

1. We use brass and galvanized fittings for the spigot and overflow, making the barrels durable (no plastic fittings).

2. The overflow and spigot are installed with teflon tape, O-rings, and 100% Silicon to ensure a long and water tight life (Not just glued or caulked).

3. No-kink hose bib and threaded overflow allow for easy hose connections

4. Inlet is Triple-Layered with mesh and screen to keep out leaves, debris, and mosquitoes. It's removable if you need to clean out barrel.

Burlap Coffee Bags - $1 each

We know, its kind of a random thing for a compost operation to have.  But, we work with a coffee roaster who gets coffee delivered in these bags - so we though we should try to find a home for them.  They are made from burlap and are 27" x 38".  If you want to use them at home, in the garden, or for a cool craft project then grab a few.
